Dr. John Swingle , DVM

Dr. John Swingle joined Countryside Veterinary Clinic in 1985 and is the owner of Countryside Veterinary Clinic along with Dr. Keller. He grew up on a dairy, beef, and fruit farm in southeastern Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Swingle cares for both large and small animals and has a special interest in ear and skin problems in dogs.

Dr. Swingle lives in New Richmond with his wife, Teri. They have 3 children, Scott, Todd, and Elizabeth. Scott lives and works in Minneapolis - Todd is in Graduate School at the University of Denver and Elizabeth attends Stevens Point this fall majoring in Dance.

Dr. Swingle's hobbies include hiking with his English Springer Spaniel, Buddy, and riding his horses, Cowboy & Gunnar. He also participates in Competetive Mounted Orienteering as often as time allows. He's really good with a compass! Ask him about this next time you see him.


Dr. Brian J Keller , DVM

Dr John SwingleDr. Brian Keller was born and raised in Medford, Minnesota. He attended pre-veterinary medicine at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. While there he was involved in various clubs as well as varsity wrestling. He then entered Veterinary School at the University of Minnesota graduating in 1990. He has been a member of the Countryside Veterinary Clinic team ever since and is a partner with Dr. Swingle. His veterinary interests include orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and ophthalmology. He also enjoys being out in the country on a nice Spring or Fall day caring for his large animal patients.

Dr. Keller and his wife, Debbie, have 2 children, Jon and Kathryn.  Debbie is an 8th grade Language teacher in River Falls, attends the University of Minnesota, and Kathryn goes to New Richmond High School.

Dr. Keller and Debbie a full house of pets:

  • Razz - a 12 year old yellow Labrador Retriever who loves to fetch the dummy.
  • Zeus - an 8 year old Springer Spaniel that is Dr. Keller's special needs dog.  He enjoys life and spends quality time lying on the deck taking in the scenery.
  • Hope - a 2 year old Yorkshire Terrier that loves to come to work with Dr. Keller.
  • Mikey, Tiger & Pebbles - cat that are all littermates.

Dr. Keller enjoys outdoor activities including water skiing, hunting, landscaping and just being outdoors. He also enjoys helping out with the youth wrestling programs. Dr. Keller enjoys being a dad and spending time with his family and going to all of the kids various sporting events and activities. He is also a Viking fan - however - we try to keep that quiet!


Dr. Meredith Smith , DVM

Dr John SwingleDr. Meredith Smith grew up in Roseville, MN. She attended the University of Wisconsin, River Falls where she studied Animal Science and Biology. She then attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota graduating in 2000. She joined the Countryside Veterinary Clinic staff as an associate veterinarian in June of 2000.

Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her husband Mark, and their three children, Lauren, Carson and Erika. She also enjoys the company of their two English Setters: Maggie and Rio and their Boxer/Hound mix puppy: Gypsy. Her hobbies include swimming, scuba diving and horseback riding.


Dr. Heather Johnson, DVM

Dr. Heather Johnson  was raised in St. Charles, Missouri and received an undergraduate degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Throughout her childhood and into college, she spent a great deal of time working in the animal shelter environment.  Community involvement and shelter medicine will always be a passion of hers.  She attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota, and her intererests include equine medicine, dentistry, and critical care.

Dr. Johnson is happily married to her husband, Jake, who is also a veterinarian.  They just welcomed their baby girl, Grace Emily, to the world.  Heather and Jake also share their lives with their Jack  Russel  Terrier, Maci,  Norman, the cat, and Red, the American Saddlebred horse.

Whether it's saddling up and heading out on the trails or cross country jumping, Dr. Johnson's favorite hobby includes spending time with her horse, Red.  Other favorite hobbies include downhill skiing, water skiing, and fishing.
