NEWS & INFO

Happy New Year!

Tips to help your pet deal with the winter cold:

  • Purchase boots and coats for small or older dogs or for any that would prefer a jacket to keep out the cold.
  • Be sure to have adequate housing and bedding for outdoor pets and increase calorie intake to help them deal with the cold.
  • Consider using a "pet safe" ice melt product.
  • Pets, like people, are often less active during the cold winter months which can cause weight gain.  Consider decreasing the amount fed or switching to a light formula during the winter for less active pets.
  • Don't forget to apply flea preventative, because fleas can still survive the winter on rodents, rabbits, and squirrels outdoors!  Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail with any questions on how to ready your pet for the winter months!

February is Dental Month!  Click here for our Dental Specials!

Did you know?
  • 80% of pets over the age of 2 have some form of dental disease.
  • A good dental health regimen can increase your pets lifespan by at least 2 years!
  • Tartar that builds up on teeth is full of bacteria, and when it gets under the gumline, it has direct access to the bloodstream.  That bacteria can circulate to the heart, kidneys, liver, and other places affecting your pet's overall health.
  • Once tartar has built up on your pets' teeth, the only way to get it off it to have a dental cleaning (like people going to the dentist), but pets must be put under anesthesia.
  • Call or e-mail us to schedule a free "Flip The Lip" exam, where our technicians will look at your pet's teeth and assess their dental disease.  Then we can give you a treatment plan for the appropriate dental cleaning your pet needs.
  • Brush your pets teeth on a regular basis (at least 3 times per week can make a difference!).  It can be easy especially if started at a young age.  Ask one of our technicians to show you how.
  • Try Science Diet Oral Care Treats - Nugget-shaped treats with long fibers that scrub teeth when chewed.  Give after each meal.
  • Try Prescription Diet T/D - a maintenance diet for pets with existing dental disease - clinically proven to reduce plaque build-up and gingivitis.  Ask one of our veterinarians for more information.
Do not hesitate to call or e-mail with any questions or concerns about your pet's dental health!
